Nabors steps down from Glassport council
She cited increased responsibilities at work for the decision.
After an appointment three years ago and a successful retention campaign, Amy Nabors recently resigned from Glassport Borough Council.
Nabors, 58, a lifelong resident of Glassport, cited more responsibilities with her day job as a title processor at Copart salvage yard in West Mifflin as her reason for resigning.
“I’m still working full time and doing a lot more work,” she said. “Maybe someone younger with more time could do it.”
The Democrat had not been attending as many meetings as she’d like and after a long career working as a medical assistant at Med Express, she has more schooling and extensive travel ahead of her for the new position.
“I appreciated the time. I wished I could give a lot more; I had to make a decision,” she said.
Nabors is a graduate of Serra High School who was asked to join Glassport council when a vacancy opened. Council President Anthony Colecchi took her around the business district and got her acclimated to the position.
“I just think that working together as a team to improve this town was important to me,” she said. “So I would like to see that continue.”
Colecchi said Nabors, as chair of the buildings committee, was influential in helping with the transformation of the former Tube City TMS offices to the new municipal offices and police station.
She calls her resignation a “retirement from politics.”
Nabors said in addition to working additional hours, she looks forward to spending more time with husband Lance and son Luke.
Borough council has advertised for residents to apply for the vacant seat and send resumes for consideration. As of Saturday, Colecchi had not yet received any applicants. He doesn’t expect that to continue.
In Tuesday’s election, there are four candidates vying for three council seats. One is Republican Wendy Boor. Nabors says she would “be an excellent choice” to take her seat, adding, “She is excellent with communications and would be a good fit for borough council.”
Interested candidates have until Nov. 11 to get their applications into the borough, and council will consider candidates Nov. 18.
