Patrick J. Vadella, 96, of Elco, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023. A son of the late Joseph and Carmella Cimino Vadella, he was born on July 19, 1927, in Belle Vernon. A U.S. Army sergeant and World War II veteran, Patrick graduated from Belle Vernon High School, where he played football on the 1943 undefeated team, was a former member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Roscoe and a member of Roscoe American Legion Post 801. Patrick worked for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel for 40 years, retiring in 1984, and then as a consultant for two years. He was also a former councilman in Elco and received the 2005 Citizen of the Year award. He loved fishing and betting on horses. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald Vadella of Elco, Anthony and Sally Vadella of Midlothian, Va., and Thomas and Tammy Vadella of Roscoe; eight grandchildren, Brandon (Shandra) Vadella, Hunter Vadella, Tiffany (Dustin) Griffith, Aleshia (Blake) Eiwen, Emerald Vadella, Justin Vadella, Jordon (Jordan) Powell and Jessee Vadella; and nine great-grandchildren, Alaine, Arianna, Grayson, Avianna, Sophia, Lachlan, Ellianna, Karsyn and Wilder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Cora Bane Vadella, on July 15, 2022; a son, Patrick Vadella; a daughter-in-law, Holly Vadella; brothers, Joseph Vadella and Fred, Anthony, Frank and Ralph Matrozzo; and sisters, Angie Cherock and Fortunata Toth. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A blessing will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday with Father Efrin Ambre officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
