Walter C. Kosa, 94, of Monongahela, passed away on Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, in his home. Born Nov. 19, 1928, in Donora, he was the son of the late Paul and Catherine Struzynski Kosakowski. Walt was a graduate of Donora High School, and after graduation he joined the United States Army and served his country in World War II. Walt was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle in Monongahela and was a proud member of American Legion Post 949 in Carroll Township, VFW Post 1409 in Monongahela, Hoot Owls Club in New Eagle and the Polish Alliance. Walt enjoyed fishing, camping and was an avid outdoorsman in general. He also enjoyed polka dancing and was always proud to shag balls with his friend Stan Musial. An entrepreneur, Walt retired from Prudential Life Insurance Co. as a sales agent and in the late 1960s owned Angelo’s Restaurant with his friend, Jook Bartman. Later in life he opened the Grill Inn with his wife, Helen, in New Eagle, until they finally decided to retire. He is survived by two sons, Daniel and Karl Kosa of Milwaukee, Wis.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen (David) Orrik of Alexander, Va., and Alice (Robert) Grimes of Jefferson Hills; six grandchildren, Jennifer Kelly, Jessica, Ashley and Adam Kosa and Fawn and Jarrod Anthony; great-grandchildren, Alexis Woodward, Justin Kelly and Tucker, Rhett, Audrey and Brooks Kosa. Walt was looking forward to meeting his first great-great grandson due in September. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jalosky Kosa, who died Aug. 16, 1998; three brothers, Stanley, Anthony and Kazmir Kosakowski; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Joseph Pasierb and Bertha and William Sakowiec. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767 from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Blessing prayers will begin in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Monongahela, beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Mon Valley Firing Squad and Honor Guard.
