Charlie Mae ‘Chick’ Sloan White

Softly and tenderly on Oct. 12, 2022, the Lord called Charlie Mae “Chick” Sloan White home. She was born on Jan. 25, 1927, in Black Mountain, N.C. She was the daughter of Theoplia and Charlie Sloan. She married Theodo White on July 10, 1963, and has been married to the love of her life for 59 years. Her son, David, preceded her in death. Charlie Mae was baptized at the age of 13. By following her father and mother’s footsteps at an early age, she began to understand the meaning of being a Christian and developed into the woman she was. Charlie Mae lived her life by Ephesians 6:2: “Honor your father and your mother…” — that is the first commandment with a promise. She has been praising God since 1940. Charlie Mae was a devoted and faithful member and held numerous positions: Deaconess Board, Usher Board, Nurses Board, Walter E. McBrayer Choir, The Mass Choir, Head Chef, Chairwoman for Church Anniversary, Pastor’s Anniversary, Sunday School, Youghiogheny Willing Workers and Nurses Convention. She was also a member of Star of Bethlehem #34 OES. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theoplia and Charlie Sloan; brothers, Winslow, Robert, Gonzales, Charles and Westley Sloan; and a sister, Gwendolyn. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Theodo White; daughters, Denise Sloan Fykes of Maryland and Desiree Sloan Morris of Monongahela; daughter-in-law, Annie Sloan of San Leandro, Calif.; brother-in-law, William White of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Jennifer Greene (Gregory) of Boston, Mass., Ratiscqua (Gerald) Mills of Martinsville, Va.; DeShaun Antone of Donora, Pa. and DeJaun Antone Of Charlotte, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Theodore Mills, Charles Mills and Ari Mills of Martinsville, Va. and DeJaun Antone, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, George Stanford Sloan (Lucille) of Philadelphia, Pa. and James (Brenda) Sloan of San Diego, Calif.; and godson, Timothy Anderson of Pittsburgh, Pa. Special thanks to Carolyn Arnold for her love, care and support and to Georgetta “Georgie” Staley of Amedisys Hospice staff. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022.OES presentation will take place from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m., with a service following at 11 a.m. with Pastor Lee Haney of St. Paul Baptist Church, 49 South McKean Ave., Donora, Pa., officiating. Interment will be at Mon Valley Memorial Park. Celebration of life has been gently placed in the hands of HOUSE OF JACKSON MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 546 Thompson Ave., Donora, Pa., Karl Jackson, funeral director, 724-379-5420.
