Municipal roundup: Election Day results from Valley communities

The winners will move on to the Nov. 4 general election.

This year’s primary election featured a large number of uncontested races throughout the Mon Valley, including a fair amount of races that didn’t even have enough candidates.

Here is a look at several county and municipal election results in Allegheny, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties as the Mon Valley Independent continues primary election coverage.

All results are unofficial until certified by the election bureaus.

Allegheny County Dravosburg

In Dravosburg, Mayor Kevin R. McKelvey, a Democrat, was unopposed, receiving 177 votes.

Appearing to secure their reelection bids for council are incumbents William Snodgrass Jr., 143 votes, James C. Sikora, 125, and Jay E. McKelvey, 109. Candidate John R. Palcsey had 85 votes. There were 46 write-in votes.

Elizabeth Borough

Longtime Mayor Barry G. Boucher, a Democrat, was unoppposed for reelection and garnered 84 votes.

For one of three, four-year council seats, incumbent Democrats Chad Rager, (70 votes) Charles Smith Jr. (55 votes) and Republican Cole Buchina (50 votes), and Emily McNeil, (72 votes) a Democrat, all secured nominations.

Elizabeth Township

Incumbent Commissioners Kyle Walk, a Democrat (Ward 2), Joshua Walls, a Republican (Ward 4) and Republican Chris Thoma (Ward 6) were unopposed for reelection. With 100% of precincts reporting, Walk had 135 votes, Walls, 77, and Thoma, 166.

Glassport

Glassport Mayor Keith S. DiMarco, a Democrat, was unopposed for reelection and received 296 votes.

For one of three, four year seats on council, incumbent Democrats Paul Trunzo, (270 votes) Anthony Colecchi (266 votes) and Meghan DeVerse (227 votes) will face Republican Wendy J. Boor (89 votes) in the fall.

Liberty

Democrat S. Larry Sikorski received 223 votes for mayor. There were 94 Republican mayor write-in votes. Seeking one of four council seats are only three candidates, Timothy W. Sloss, (150 votes) Michael Matlos (163) and Linda M. Surgeon, (170), all Democrats.

Shelley Aquilante is running unopposed as tax collector.

Lincoln

Republican James Beisler received 36 votes for mayor of Lincoln Borough. There were 19 Democratic write-in votes.

Democrat Tammy Firda, (84 votes), and Republican Jeff Bertok, (37 votes), both secured nominations for two council seats.

Port Vue

Democratic Mayor Brien A. Hranics was unopposed for reelection and received 294 votes.

Democrats Deborah Thomas, (241 votes), Doug Junecko (240), Robert Betters (239) and Mark D. Tortorice, (231) received nominations for one of four, four-year council seats.

Versailles

Democrat James Fleckenstein was unopposed for mayor and received 112 votes.

Running for one of four, four-year council seats are Democrats Lisa Fleckenstein, (88 votes), Evelyn Schillaci (84), Mike Kisan (83), and James Sheedy (80).

White Oak

Longtime Mayor Ina Jean Marton, a Republican, was unopposed for reelection. With 100% of precincts reporting, she had 473 votes.

Running for one of four, four-year council seats were incumbent Republicans Julie Opferman, (401 votes), Jason D. Russell, (398), Loree L. Scharritter, (376), and Joelle Harbert (376). They will face the lone Democrat on the ballot, Brian Dinkfelt (762 votes) in the fall.

Washington County row offices

In the race for Washington County controller, Pat Phillips won the Republican nomination with 3,871 votes, according to unofficial Washington County election results. Falling short were GOP candidates Heather Sheatler, who is serving as acting controller, with 3,365 votes, Brenda Davis, 2,793, and Tony Jacob DeLost, 2,789.

There were no Democrats on the ballot, but there were 1,718 write-in votes.

Republicans Sheriff Tony Andronas and Recorder of Deeds Carrie Perrell both ran for reelection unopposed. There were no Democrats on the ballot.

Allenport

There were no candidates for mayor on either ticket, but 24 Democratic write-in votes and 15 Republican write-in votes were cast.

Allenport has four, four year seats open, with only Democrat Rondell Mickey (40 votes) and Republicans Nancy Kennedy Williamson (25) and William J. Williamson (22), headed to the fall election.

Bentleyville

Bentleyville Borough has four, four-year seats up for grabs and there were plenty of candidates.

Winning the Democratic nominations are incumbents Timothy Miller, (147 votes), and Kathy Rakosky (133), and candidates Joshua Gordon, (132) and Lance Kavakich, (100). Falling short was Lee Wytovich (85).

They’ll face the top four Republican candidates in the fall: Joseph Pigeon III (122 votes), Jason Cole (88), Jonathan L. Patress (78) and Kimberly Greenfield Sacco (70). Falling short were Marina Sapp (65), Rob Hess (51) and Coy A. Malys Sr. (37.)

Cole was the lone GOP candidate seeking the mayor’s seat, garnering 106 votes. There were 151 Democratic write-in votes.

California

With 100% of precincts reporting, Republican Mayor Frank D. Stetar fended off a challenge by fellow GOP candidate Benjamin Michael Filek, 143 to 43 votes. There were no Democratic candidates on the ballot.

Democratic incumbents Edwin “Chip” Glab, Patsy J. Alfano and Jon Bittner and Republican John Frank will square off against Republican candidates Mike Watson, Franklin D. Turosik and Filek for one of four, four-year council seats in the fall.

Carroll Township

Republican incumbent John McKeever is seeking reelection to one, six-year seat on the board of supervisors. He had 271 votes and has no Democratic opposition.

Charleroi

Former mayor and council member, Democrat Nancy J. Ellis will face Republican Ernest Merritt in the fall for mayor. Neither had opposition. With 100% of precincts reporting, Ellis got 132 votes, Merritt, 90. There were 44 write-in votes for the Democratic mayor nomination and eight for the GOP mayor nomination.

Ellis also received a Democratic nomination for one of four, four-year council seats.

Republicans Lorraine Smith and Deborah M. Devigne were the lone candidates on their ticket, receiving 75 and 70 votes, respectively. There were 41 GOP write-in votes for council.

Coal Center

There was no one on the ballot for one, four-year seat. There were five Democratic write-in votes and one Republican.

Donora

Donora has four, fouryear seats open on council.

With 100% of precincts reporting, leading the Democratic ticket are candidates Neal Rands, 284 votes; Michelle Kitchens, 183; Mark Bizzell Boyer, 166; and Roderick Wilson Sr., 122.

They will face Joshua Lamb, the lone Republican on the ballot who received 100 votes. There were also 67 Republican write-in votes.

Mayor Don Pavelko, a Democrat, was unopposed for reelection and received 253 votes.

Dunlevy

Like many Mid-Mon Valley communities, there are more seats open in Dunlevy than candidates running.

With three, four-year seats open, only Republican Randall J. Aul was on the ballot and got 11 votes. There were eight Democratic write-in votes and nine Republican.

Democratic Mayor J. Ross Landman did not have opposition and had 29 votes.

Elco

Elco has three, four-year seats open. Incumbents, Democrat Larry J. Pollock Sr., (18 votes) and Republican Susan Cullen (16) sought reelection.

Democratic Mayor Frank J. Kennedy was unopposed and got 15 votes.

Finleyville

Finleyville council has two, four year-seats open. Republicans John N. Crayton (14 votes) and Elizabeth Peters (13) were the only candidates on the ballot.

Democrat Michael M. Kutsek had no opposition for reelection and received 14 votes.

Long Branch

Seeking one of three, fouryear seats on Long Branch council are Democrats Frank Nichols (15 votes), Joseph DeBlassio III (14), and Walter Philipkosky (19 votes).

Republican Joseph DeBlassio Jr. (18 votes) and Democrat Michael R. Natale (31 votes) will face off in the fall for mayor.

Monongahela

Incumbent council members Mark W. Gadd (252 votes), a Democrat, and Sarah J. O’Brien, (137 votes) a Republican, were the lone candidates seeking two, fouryear seats.

New Eagle

New Eagle Borough had a race this primary election for three, four-year council seats. There were no Democrats on the ballot, but there were 208 write-in-votes.

Earning the Republican nominations are Paul Pro, 136 votes; Bob Koziel, 118; and Drew Guarino, 113. Other GOP candidates that fell short were incumbents William Sherry, 58 votes; Charles M. Fine, 56; and Dennis E. Walters, 48.

North Charleroi

Democrats Edwin J. Uhutch (66 votes) and Joseph E. Duche (80 votes) will face Republicans Fred Schwalb (46) and Amanda Santoro (26) in the fall for two, four year-seats on North Charleroi council.

Democratic Mayor Stephen M. Sergi (86 votes) is seeking reelection, with no opposition on either ballot.

Roscoe

Roscoe Borough has four, four-year seats on the ballot for council.

Democrats Charles J. DiPiazza (69 votes) and Jennifer Todd (69 votes), both incumbents, are seeking reelection. Inga Stangroom (21 votes) is the lone Republican on the ballot.

Longtime Mayor Thomas J. Wilkinson, a Republican, has no opposition for reelection and received 44 votes.

Speers

In Speers Borough, Democratic incumbents Curtis “Curt” Rice (108 votes), Kerry McCorkle Jr. (91), and Republican Sally Jo Barcelona (68) are seeking reelection to one of four, four-year council seats on the ballot. Democrat Arlene Devine (88 votes) is also on the ballot.

Democrat John W. Sauer is seeking the one, two-year seat.

Mayor Timothy Herd, a Republican, has no opposition on either ticket. He had 74 votes.

Stockdale

Stockdale Borough has four, four-year seats open.

Democratic council members Sherri Martin (32 votes), Bill Furlong (25) and Lou Furlong (26) are seeking reelection.

Mayor Robert Pascoe, also a Democrat, is unopposed for reelection and received 30 votes.

Twilight

Democrats Louis P. Minardi Jr. (16 votes), Paul Minardi Sr. (15) and John W. Toth (15), and Republicans John E. Ott (17) are seeking one of four, four-year seats.

Republican Brandan Baker (17 votes) is seeking one, two-year council seat.

Amanda Minardi is running for mayor.

Union Township

Republican Linda Cole is seeking the one, six-year seat on the board of supervisors. She received 284 votes.

Tax Collector Bernadette Speer, a Democrat, faces opposition in the fall by Republican candidate Bob Hahner Jr.

West Brownsville

Seeking one of four, fouryear seats on West Brownsville council are Democrats Mark R. Tobak (39 votes), Von D. Braddock (65), and Susan L. Rutledge (53), along with Republicans Stephen Bucar (45), Melonie Ochkie (33) and Debby L. King (50).

W. Dean Lacey is running for mayor on the Republican ticket and received 59 votes.

West Pike Run Township

Democrat Randolph Patterson (106 votes) is the only candidate for one, six-year seat on the West Pike Run Township board of supervisors.

Magistrate district offices

Magisterial District Judge Eric Porter in Charleroi is uncontested for his second, six-year term for District 271-03. He crossfiled and received 2,154 total votes.

Magisterial District Judge Joshua Kanalis is uncontested for his third term for District 27-3-03. He crossfiled and received 2,471 total votes.

Fayette County

Incumbent Recorder of Deeds Jon R. Marietta Jr., a Republican from Redstone Township, fended off a challenge for his party’s nomination by Christina Becker of Luzerne Township, 4,820 to 4,074, with 100% of precincts reporting. Marietta will face Democrat James Santilli of South Union Township in the November general election ballot. Santilli garnered 7,947 votes.

Incumbent Treasurer Melissa Tzan, a Republican, will face Democrat Matthew Lancaster of Menallen Township in the fall general election as they both secured their party’s nomination with no opponents. Tzan had 7,344 votes, Lancaster, 7,616.

Belle Vernon

Longtime Mayor Gerald W. Jackson, a Democrat, was unopposed for reelection and had 57 votes with 100% of precincts reporting.

For one of three, four-year council seats are Democratic incumbents Frank E. Monack, 53 votes, Laurie Lazzari Charnack, 51 votes, and Joseph Minniti Jr., 49 votes.

They’ll face opposition in the fall by Republicans Edward A. Stasko Sr., 30 votes, and Denise A. Stasko, 38.

Fayette City

Democrat Dianna M. Vargo (25 votes) was the lone candidate for one of three, fouryear seats.

Jefferson Twp.

Democrat William L. Stuckslager (160 votes) and Republican Tony Hela (82 votes) will face off in the fall for one, six-year supervisor seat.

Perry Township

Barry Shoaf (206 votes) is seeking the Democratic nomination for one, six-year seat on the board of supervisors.

Democrats Rebecca D. Johnson defeated Robert Kershey for the tax collector nomination, 205 to 32. There were 78 Republican write-in votes for tax collector.

Perryopolis

Democratic Mayor Charles W. Petrosky had no opposition and received 151 votes.

Democrats Wayne Nicholls (148 votes) and Joseph Ambrose Jr. (106) and Republican Niel Costabile (62) are the only candidates for four, four-year council seats.

Washington Township

Republican Supervisor James Scott Hileman (222 votes) is unopposed for reelection.

Westmoreland County Monessen

First-term Mayor Ron Mozer, a Democrat, faced no opposition for his reelection bid, nor did Councilmen Anthony W. Orzechowski and John Scott Nestor, both Democrats. With 100% of precincts reporting, Nestor had 659 votes, Orzechowski, 563. Mozer had 776 votes.

There were 86 Republican write-in votes for mayor.

City Treasurer Gerald A. Saksun (806 votes) has no opposition for reelection.

No one filed to run for the city controller seat, but John Mandarino ran a write-in campaign for the seat. There were 202 combined write-in votes for controller.

North Belle Vernon

Longtime Democratic incumbent Mayor Craig V. Ambrose faced no opposition for reelection. He had 136 votes with 100% of precincts reporting.

There were only three candidates for one of four, fouryear council seats: Democrats John J. Gilmore, 112 votes and Jon P. Wasicek, 115 votes, and Republican Karen W. Jones, 92 votes.

Rostraver Twp.

There are two, four-year seats on the ballot for Rostraver Township commissioner. Incumbent Republicans Jeff Johnson and Justin Kosanko had no opposition. With 100% of precincts reporting, Kosanko had 547 votes, Johnson, 525.

There will be a race in the fall, however, for tax collector. Incumbent Patricia (Pat) Lander (598 votes) faces a challenge by Democrat Jody Spedaliere (651 votes).

West Newton

Longtime Mayor Mary Popovich, a Democrat, will face GOP challenger Robert Kepics in the fall as both did not have opposition for their party’s seat. Popovich had 185 votes while Kepics had 130.

Democrats Jason Cooper (171 votes), Terri Sam Eckels (173) and Brenda L. Maleski (161) secured nominations for one of three, four-year seats on council. There were no Republicans on the ballot, but there were 166 write-in votes for council.
