Hounds overcome slow start to thump Avella

Despite a flat start on offense and one of its lowest scoring quarters of the season in the second, the Monessen girls basketball squad started the second half with an 8-0 spree and never looked back Wednesday night.
The Greyhounds had eight players reach the scoresheet and relied on its stout defense throughout the contest, en route to a 54-38 victory over Avella at home grabbing sole possession of second place in Section 2-A.
