Donald H. Romito Sr. – Charleroi
Donald H. Romito Sr., age 92, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 29, 2022. Born in Charleroi Sept. 21, 1929, he was the son of the late Octavio and Eva Troiano Romito. He was preceded in death by 11 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruby (Redd) Romito; and sisters, Gloria (Albert) Doty of Pittsburgh and Elaine (William) Niccolai of New Eagle. He was the loving father of Patty (Joe) Smith of Charleroi, Donald (Victoria) Romito Jr. of Toledo, Ohio, Albert (Tammi) Romito of Maumee, Ohio, and Dana (George) Galis of Houston, Pa. He loved each of his nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, in addition to many loving nieces and nephews. He was a man of great faith, a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. He was a 1949 graduate of Charleroi High School and a Korean Conflict veteran. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company after 39 years of service. He had many passions in his long life, starting with the love of his family first, in addition to a very strong work ethic. If he wasn’t working in the steel mill, he would be selling suits at his brother, Tars Romito’s, clothing store, or doing side plumbing or painting jobs. He coached grade school basketball for the Mother of Sorrows Parish for 30 years. After retirement, he drove the patient van for the Mon Valley Hospital for 15 years. He was a proud member of the Italian American Society of Washington County. He made many lifelong friends through his passion for family and work. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers of Cambridge Hillside, Cambridge Creekside and Caring Hospice Services for their gentle care. The family held a private celebration of life in his honor.
