Helen Sabovik – North Versailles, formerly of Port Vue
It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Sabovik (Aunt Penny), 94, announces her passing on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021. Formerly of Port Vue, she spent the last four years at Point Pleasant Retirement Community (Independent Living) in North Versailles. She was born in McKeesport on Nov. 25, 1926, and is the daughter of the late John and Anna Petro Sabovik. She attended McKeesport High School and was an administrative assistant for U.S. Steel Duquesne Works for 40 years. She belonged to the Port Vue Senior Citizens. She is survived by nieces, Eileen Lovre and Nancy (George) Hall; nephews, James (Danielle) Babyak, Don (Monica) Lovre and Robert (Jodi) Girovsky; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jamie Babyak Otto, Jenna Babyak Casamassa, Jake Babyak, J R Lovre, Melanie Girovsky and Annamarie Lovre. She was preceded in death by brothers, Michael (Caroline) Sabovik, John Sabovik Jr. and George Sabovik; sisters, Ann Sabovik (Andrew) Babyak, Margaret Sabovik (Michael) Girovsky, Agnes Sabovik (John) Lovre; and a niece, Annette Babyak Scannell. Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, at St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, 410 Sixth Ave., McKeesport, PA 15132. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131, Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177.
