McKeesport Regional History & Heritage Center is calling for a mulligan.
Last year — just before the COVID-19 pandemic forced restrictions and closures — the staff, volunteers and board at the Heritage Center were hard at work planning the inaugural Heritage Golf Classic to take place in late summer/early fall 2020.
Museum Manager Dave Moore, a golf buff, hoped for a hole-in-one event that could become an annual fundraiser.
He’s trying to keep his spirits high and never gave up hope on holding the event.
“This is our inaugural mulligan for the golf outing,” he joked.
The 2021 Heritage Golf Classic is slated for July 26 at Youghiogheny Country Club in Elizabeth Township.
As he saw pandemic restrictions being lessened earlier this year and as the number of people getting vaccinated for COVID-19 increased, Moore expected locals who had been cooped up inside for over a year to be thrilled to get a chance to get together with a group of friends, hop in the golf cart, hit the greens and enjoy a quality meal at a table together afterward.
He’s hoping to get some more participants signed up. It costs $125 per golfer, which includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch and dinner. Those with no interest in golfing can attend the dinner for $40.
Golfing will kick off with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.
The winning foursome gets their photo with the Heritage Classic Championship Cup and will be featured in the center’s permanent Sports Exhibit. Each member of the winning foursome will receive a trophy.
