A new education program for area young people is coming to a museum in McKeesport’s Renziehausen Park in honor of a late local educator.
The family, friends and colleagues of Matthew T. Bauman, a late McKeesport Area High School teacher, gathered at McKeesport Regional History & Heritage Center this week to pay tribute to his life and passion.
A memorial stone and butterfly bush were dedicated in Bauman’s memory Wednesday in a ceremony at the center.
A lover of history, Bauman, who passed away Oct. 14 at age 36, was vice president of the board at the McKeesport Regional History & Heritage Center.
During the dedication of the monument Wednesday, officials from the center announced a new student outreach and educational program in the beloved teacher’s honor.
Museum Director Dave Moore, Development Director Teresa Trich and Board President Marianne MacBeth said The Matthew T. Bauman Student Outreach and Educational Program will celebrate the region’s history by sharing the museum and research center’s wealth of knowledge with children, teens and young adults for generations to come.
