Five Trinity pitchers combined for a three-hit, 14 strikeout effort as the Hillers downed Ringgold, 3-1, at Ken Griffey Sr. Field Friday.
Brandon Robaugh picked up the win on the mound, tossing two perfect innings and he also homered deep to left to lead the Hillers (3-6).
“That’s kind of been our pattern all season,” Ringgold coach Don Roberts said. “We’re pitching well, defense has been great, we just can’t seem to get it together in the batter’s box. We’re not getting the bat on the ball.”
The Rams (5-7) struck first with a run in the bottom of the first off of Trinity starter Chad Johnson.
Eli Callaway reached on an infield single to no-man’s land between the mound and shortstop. Running on contact with two outs, he came around to score when Hunter Mamie launched a ball over the head of the left fielder for a double.
The Hillers responded in the top of the second when Robaugh crushed a Gianni Cantini pitch deep over the fence in left field for a solo shot.
“You can’t fault Gianni for that pitch. It was a great pitch, it was down at the kid’s knees,” Roberts said. “He just went down and got it. He hammered it.”
