North Belle Vernon will welcome spring this weekend, as area residents stroll Broad Avenue to find bargains, grab a bite to eat and enjoy the weather with their families.

Spring on the Avenue, an annual event, started Friday but will kick into high gear today as 15 small businesses and more than 30 other vendors line Broad Avenue to sell their goods.

In addition to specials and sales, a food truck and an ice cream truck will be on hand, as well as various forms of entertainment for families to enjoy.

Diann Donaldson, owner of Jazzy Boutique, said organizers think this might be their most successful year yet.

“It’s a Mon Valley event,” she said. “The shops along Broad are involved, but we will also have businesses from places like Monongahela and Monessen that will come to set up tables along the street, who might not have brick-and-mortar locations.

“It’s just a nice time to celebrate spring, celebrate our community and to shine some light on the businesses in our corridor.”
