Sara “Sally” Jane Sherbondy Yates, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. Born Oct. 5, 1937, Sally lived an adventurous and full life and never wanted to slow down. She enjoyed traveling to see her family and friends across the United States as well as joining friends locally in one of their music jams. Sally was a great friend to many and will be remembered for her love of cooking, baking and taking care of others. A graduate of South Huntingdon High School Class of 1955 and West Penn School of Nursing Class of 1958 , Sally worked for many years for both West Penn and Dr. Philip J. Reilly in Smithton. She was an active member of the Winnett United Methodist Church holding board positions and supporting their many fundraisers. Sally was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Yates; parents Frances Bennett and Irwin Sherbondy; and sister, Mary Ruth Holtz. She is survived by her daughters Heidi(Nick) Iacovino, Heather (Tom) Culley, Hayley ( Dan) Gbur; as well as seven cherished grandchildren, Morgan and Steven Iacovino, Trever(Emily), Evan and Grace Culley and Eva and Carlton “Pudge” Gbur. A private family memorial is planned with a larger memorial celebration to be determined once COVID- 19 restrictions are lifted. Arrangements handled by LL BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Smithton.
