Michael J. Hazy – Washington Township

Michael J. Hazy, 92, of Washington Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Born on Nov. 30, 1928, in Monessen, he was the son of the late Peter and Katherine Fogel Hazy. Mike was a resident of the village of Lynnwood in Washington Township and a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church. He graduated from Monessen High School and Monessen Vocational School with the Class of 1946. Mike is a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army while stationed in Panama and Japan. Following his service, he was employed at the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Monessen Plant for 42 years until retirement. Post-retirement, he performed maintenance work at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and Regional Catholic School. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Marie “Jane” Denitti Hazy, to whom he was married for 63 years until her passing in 2016; his daughter, Marlissa Hazy Caldwell; and two brothers, Peter and Stephen Hazy. He is survived by one brother, James Hazy of Monessen; three children, Paulette Hazy of Sarasota, Fla., Michael Hazy of Washington Township and Joseph (Kimberly) Hazy of Rostraver Township; four grandchildren, Natalie (William) Farquhar, Michael Hazy, Rebecca Hazy and Samantha Carlson; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Jacob Farquhar. No funeral services will be held.
