Changes considered to Pleasant Hills food truck regulations

Could a change to Pleasant Hills’ food truck ordinance be in the near future?
That was the topic of discussion at the borough’s council meeting Monday night, as residents spoke out on the borough’s enforcement of not allowing food trucks.
Under borough Ordinance 262, no person shall occupy any fixed location upon any Pleasant Hills streets, alleys or sidewalks for the purpose of peddling, with or without any stand or counter.
The ordinance also states that no person shall park any vehicle upon any of the borough’s streets or alleys in order to sort, rearrange or clean any goods, wares or merchandise; nor may any such person maintain or keep a street or curbstone market by parking any vehicle on any street or alley in the borough for longer than necessary in order to sell to person residing in the immediate vicinity.
But according to resident Morgan Hindes, that ordinance doesn’t seem to welcome new business owners to the borough.
“I think I have a pretty good understanding of this ordinance,” Hindes told council. “But I think they’re a little bit outdated, to be honest. I think it would bring in some businesses. Pleasant Hills has a lot of vacant places.
“We have a lot of mattress factories and oil change places, but it would be nice to have new restaurants. Food trucks are restaurants. If there was a place looking to put someplace in (Pleasant Hills), wouldn’t it be nice to welcome them into our community?”
Pleasant Hills Solicitor Fred Jug said the borough’s ordinances have been in place for years, and said the ordinance protects homeowners.
