Area man charged with failing to register as a sex offender

A Belle Vernon man is being held at the Westmoreland County Prison without bail after being arrested by state police for failing to register as a sex offender.
Thomas David Steiner, 47, reportedly had addresses in Belle Vernon and in Charleroi over the past year.
According to the affidavit filed with the charges, Steiner had been residing with his girlfriend and her three children between the ages of 9 and 17 in North Belle Vernon.
According to Police, Steiner was convicted of lewd and lascivious acts upon a child in Florida and is required for life to register as a sexual offender. Police stated that he has a previous Megan’s Law violation.
