Coyle news greeted with sadness, relief in Charleroi

Many thought the final curtain fell on the Coyle Theater in 1999.

Though the theater hasn’t hosted guests in more than 20 years, for many the announcement of the demolition of the theater is truly the end of an era.

When the Coyle closed in March 1999 after a showing of “Titanic,” it brought an end to indoor cinematic entertainment in the Mid-Mon Valley.

Even though many know of the deplorable conditions inside, nostalgia makes it hard to picture an empty lot in its place for many Mon Valley residents in the Magic City and surrounding communities.
