Boil water advisory lifted
The Municipal Authority of Belle Vernon issued the advisory as a precautionary measure.
A boil water advisory issued for customers served by the Municipal Authority of Belle Vernon was lifted Wednesday after three days of testing confirmed the water system remained free of contamination following reservoir maintenance work.
The authority provides water service to Belle Vernon, North Belle Vernon and portions of Rostraver Township and Washington Township.
According to a notification distributed Wednesday, customers were initially advised Sunday to boil their water as a precaution following routine maintenance work at the authority’s reservoir.
Comprehensive water testing was conducted May 31, June 1 and June 2, while crews also completed a precautionary flushing of the water distribution system.
The Municipal Authority of Belle Vernon reported that all test results showed no contamination was detected at any point during the advisory period.
The advisory was issued as a precautionary measure after repairs and maintenance work at the reservoir.
Water and Sewage Divisions Manager Gerald Jackson said earlier this week that state regulations required additional testing to verify the safety of the water supply before the advisory could be lifted.
Jackson said crews immediately began flushing the system after being notified of the issue and completed the required testing over multiple days.
Authority officials stressed throughout the advisory that no contamination had been detected and that the boil water notice was issued out of an abundance of caution while testing was completed.
Reservoir repairs have been under discussion for months following a significant break at the reservoir. The project included replacing valves, removing trees and clearing the area around the facility.
