MAWT water system improvements set to begin Monday

By the MVI

Washington Township Municipal Authority Manager Jan Amoroso announced that work will begin on the first phase of the $5.6 million water system improvements grant awarded to MAWT.

The waterline on Grove Avenue will be the first waterline to be replaced. Kukurin Contracting was the low bidder for the project and will perform the work over a twoweek period starting Monday, weather permitting.

The contractor will post fliers regarding when vehicles need to be moved and planned water outages. Amoroso asks that residents have patience during this temporary inconvenience while the authority makes long-term improvements to the water system.

Kukurin Contracting was also the low bidder for Sandbank, Hoffman, Perry, Gillespie Hollow Road, Perry to Connellsville Road, and Connellsville to Third Street.

Britton & Sons was the low bidder for waterline replacement in Jefferson Estates (Jefferson, Washington and Coolidge). Residents will be notified when the work will be started in their area.

As part of the improvements, work will also be performed at the water plant. Improvements include a complete upgrade of the four filters, motor control center, and SCADA monitoring system.

Hogen’s Heroes, doing business as J5 Construction and Lanco Electric, was the low bidder for the plant improvements. Work is expected to begin in the next few months.
