Monessen Public Library to celebrate 90th anniversary

Special events will be held on June 6 to mark the library’s milestone.

The Monessen Public Library will celebrate its 90th anniversary with special events from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 6.

Festivities will include a children’s scavenger hunt, library memorabilia, photos of Monessen going back to the early 1900s, crafts for both kids and adults, basket raffles and a program with “The Bug Lady” featuring all kinds of bugs and creepy crawlers.

The library is also selling Coupon Fundraiser for 12 Monessen eateries. Library merchandise will also be sold which includes T-shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs and hats. There will also be refreshments.

Everybody is welcome. Here is the schedule of events: 10 a.m. — Library scavenger hunt (ages 5-10).

11 a.m. — The Bug Lady program.

Noon — Monessen Steel Mill History (featuring speaker John Golomb and others).

1 p.m. — an open forum to share favorite memories of Monessen and the library.
