Domestic assault suspect shot by city resident after escape attempt, police say

Police are investigating an incident that they said led a McKeesport resident to shoot a man who was attempting to enter his apartment early Monday morning.

According to Allegheny County Police, first responders arrived at the scene of a domestic incident at the 2300 block of Highland Avenue in McKeesport to find a female victim who said she had been assaulted by her boyfriend.

When police attempted to take the man into custody, police said he refused to leave the residence. After officers forced their way into the residence, the man fled through a back window, police said.

He then attempted to access another apartment through a window, police said, but he was shot by its occupant as he entered.

The man was taken an area hospital in critical condition, police said.
