Woman charged with false reports regarding abuse of child

By TAYLOR BROWN, Senior Reporter

A woman has been charged with providing false reports to police alleging physical and sexual abuse by family and church members against a child dozens of times over the past year.

Meghan L. McConville, 38, of California, Pa. is being charged with false reports – falsely incriminating another person, false reports – reported offenses did not occur, kidnapping of a minor facilitating a felony/flight, interference with the custody of children and harassment.

According to state police, problems started in May of 2024 and continued through July 28 of this year, during which McConville filed 20 child-line reports via Fayette County Children and Youth Services alleging that her 6-yearold had been sexually and physically abused by her grandparents, father and local church members.

The claims led police to conduct forensic interviews with the girl, which can be traumatic for children particularly when they are of a sensitive nature. Police said all claims of abuse reported to CYS were investigated and determined to be false by numerous agencies and investigators.

According to an affidavit, McConville called state police 14 times to have a welfare check conducted on the child at the home she shares with her grandparents in an attempt to circumvent an active protection from abuse order they had filed against her.

Police said the girl is currently in custody of her grandparents and father, who also has a PFA against McConville.

Each call to PSP required investigation, which disrupted the lives and caused unnecessary stress to the child’s guardians.

Police said in addition to the reports filed by McConville, she also attempted to have the child removed from the home after claiming the girl was “missing” on Facebook and needed to be returned to her care, which was untrue, according to police.

In addition to PSP, she has also reached out to the Fayette County district Attorney’s Office and Department of Homeland Security to make false reports of neglect and trafficking.

Each report was investigated and determined to be false.

In total, 30 false claims of abuse were reported through various law enforcement agencies, government organizations and the U.S. government.

Police said McConville also made 35 calls to 911 to report instances of abuse.
