Monessen fire extinguished quickly

No injuries were reported in a Monessen house fire Thursday afternoon. Monessen Municipal Fire Chief Delmar Hepple said two people lived in the house at 402 Second St., but no one was home during the fire. “We had live (electric) lines down, so we had to deal with them upon arrival,” Hepple said. “The live lines were jumping around and firefighters had to stay out of harm’s way. That slowed us down for a second, but overall, went pretty good.” He added that the fire was quickly extinguished and there was no damage to neighboring homes on either side. Both Monessen fire departments responded to the blaze, along with Charleroi, Carroll Township, Washington Township and Bentleyville. Photo by Kevin Iacovangelo / Mon Valley Independent
