Fatal fire devastates Elrama community
The Elrama Vol. Fire Company of Union Township confirmed Friday night the pregnant woman who was rescued from the house has died.
Friends and family of an Elrama family who lost their beloved daughter and unborn grandson, as well as their home, in a tragic fire early Friday morning are now coming together to help them during this difficult time.
The Elrama Vol. Fire Company of Union Township confirmed Friday night the 19-year-old woman, Sabrina Boyle, who was rescued from the house and taken to a hospital, later died.
Firefighters said she was 23 weeks pregnant.
Fire departments were called to the home on Fairview Street about 5 a.m.
Four adults were present at the home and three were able to escape on their own. The pregnant woman had to be rescued out of the home from a second-story window.
“Unfortunately, the family did suffer a loss of a woman who was 23-weeks pregnant. We are asking for help for the family. They are staying with their daughter for the time being but they suffered a tragic loss. If you are able to help the family has set up a GoFundMe for them,” reads the Elrama VFC’s statement on Facebook.
Amy Coll created a Go-FundMe page to help the family as well.
“This morning my best friend Lisa tragically lost her beautiful daughter Sabrina and unborn grandson in a house fire in Elrama. Sabrina was only 19 years old and six months pregnant.”
The post goes on to state the online fundraiser was set up to “assist Lisa and Sabrina’s stepfather Steve with expenses during this difficult time. Please send your prayers and share this with those that may reach out their hearts to my friend and her family.”
The Elrama VFC is accepting clothing donations on behalf of the family. These are measurements of the family:
• Dad: 32/32 pants, large shirt, size 10 shoe.
• Mom: Size 5 pants, large shirt, size 8 shoes.
• Boy: 32/32 pants, medium shirt, shoe size 9.
“This morning we woke up to our whole house in flames and lost our whole house and more. We have lived here our whole life and not sure what we’re going to do. We are asking for donations to help in this time of need to rebuild our life. Please share anything helps,” according to a Go-FundMe page created by Julie Cunningham.

According to a Facebook post by the Oakdale Hose Co., a volunteer fire department, Chalfant suffered burns while rescuing the pregnant woman from the home.
“In the life that we choose we know it’s not ‘if you get hurt’ it’s ‘when you get hurt’. We want to send well wishes and prayers to Chief Brian Chalfant of Jefferson Hills Fire and Rescue who was seriously burned and hospitalized this morning while operating at a dwelling fire in Elrama Washington County,” the post states.
Chalfant was released from the hospital Friday evening, according to the Elrama VFC.
A fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
