Martin F. Muzar – Monessen

Martin F. Muzar, 79, of Monessen, passed peacefully at home with his family beside him on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Born in North Charleroi on April 30, 1945, he was the son of the late Frank and Anne Gustin Muzar. He was a 1963 graduate of Monessen High School, where he studied in the vo-tech program. After graduation he joined the U.S Navy and honorably served his country from 1963-67 in Vietnam, where he was an electrician’s mate on the USS Barry (DD-933). When he returned, he worked for steel mills in Cleveland and then at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in Allenport. In Cleveland he met and married his first wife, Barbara and settled down before moving back to Monessen. He was a lifelong member of the Croatian Fraternal Union and loved his Croatian culture of music and food. He was also known for his sense of humor. He would ask, “How do you get a one armed man down from a tree?… wave at him!” He liked to make up and sing songs, and he loved dogs, especially his Rottweilers. He loved good food and was always known to eat the leftovers. He loved to fish and hunt and had a strong work ethic that he instilled in his children. He truly loved his family and his country. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Sickles) Muzar; daughters, Michele (David) Barbacow of Washington and Robin (David) Rose of Eleanor, W.Va.; stepsons, Wayne Brown of Perryopolis, Shawn (Lisa) Brown of Monongahela and Brian (Amber) Brown of Baldwin; grandchildren, Mason, Addison, Amelia, Logan, Camden, Shawna, Darren, Evie, Lainey and Ashton; numerous nieces and nephews, including Arlene Karg and Susan Lane; as well as many great-nieces, greatnephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara; daughter, Anita; and sister, Nancy Penich. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www. jamesstumpfuneralhome. com, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Sandra E.
