In a matchup of bitter rivals, 80 minutes was not enough Wednesday.
The Ringgold and Belle Vernon Area girls soccer teams battled it out for two overtimes, but after several, exciteing chances and some tremendous saves, the game ended in a 2-2 draw in Section 2-3A action.
“We are still improving our game every time out,” Ringgold coach Ed Rosensteel said. “We got a little bit frantic on the defensive end at times, but I thought we settled into this game. It was tight and it was physical. It was your typical Ringgold-Belle Vernon game.”
In the first overtime, both squads exchanged chances. In the final 3:45, both teams combined to hit three posts and had one breakaway go wide. Emily Doleno was solid in goal for the Rams with three saves in the first overtime period.
