Robert Leroy ‘Irish’ McGavitt – North Charleroi

Robert Leroy “Irish” McGavitt, 86, of North Charleroi, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Sept. 4, 2023. Robert was born in West Pike Run Township on Feb. 22, 1937, son of the late George and Hennrietta McGavitt. In addition to his parents, Mr. McGavitt was preceded in death by his wife, Paula Joyce McGavitt; and the youngest of his 11 siblings. Mr. McGavitt worked for McCormick’s Water Drilling during the early 1960s. In 1968, he went to work for the Allenport Works Steel Mill until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed riding his trike and taking long drives through the countryside. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.   Surviving to cherish Robert’s memory are his son, Ed (Cheryl) McGavitt of Charleroi; his four daughters, Cathy (Chuck) Lisovich of North Charleroi, Connie McGavitt of North Charleroi, Robin (Mario) Greco of Rostraver and Traci Yates of Robinson; his eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, inside the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hogan-Melenyzer Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc.
