Richard Schanning, 79, of Washington, Pa. formerly of Charleroi, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2022, in the South Hills Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. Born on Aug. 3, 1942, in North Charleroi, Richard is the son of the late Charles and Rose Giambrone Schanning. Richard was the owner and operator of Richard’s Children Store in Charleroi and then continued on to be a jeweler at Bailey, Banks & Biddle Jewelry Store in South Hills Village Mall until his retirement. He was a member of the Senior LIFE Washington. Richard was a theater and movie aficionado; he loved spending his free time going to shows and listening to his music with his dearest friends. Surviving to cherish Richard’s memory are his close friend whom he loved like his daughter, Renea (Randy) Jordan and their son, Jace Jordan, whom Richard loved like a grandson. Along with his longtime friend and companion, the Rev. Shawn Moninger. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his aunt, Anne Giambrone. A graveside service will be held at Mon Valley Memorial Park, 49 Second St. Ext., Donora, at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2022, with the Rev. Shawn Moninger officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to help offset burial costs by contacting the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hogan-melenyzer.com.
