Cynthia ‘Cindi’ Marie Greco – York, Pa.

Cynthia “Cindi” Marie Greco, 57, passed away April 17, 2022, after a brief illness. Born May 24, 1964, to William and Lena Greco (both deceased) in Monessen , C i n d i was a 1982 graduate of Mon Valley Catholic High School and a 1986 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she studied English writing and literature. After graduating from IUP, she went on to be a feature writer and marketing specialist for various newspapers such as the Suburban News of Westfield, N.J., and MediaOnePA. She left print media to work for United Cerebral Palsy of South Central PA, then the York County Economic Alliance. At the time of her death, she was employed as the communications director for the West York Area School District. Cindi was civically minded and at one time served on the board of directors at the YWCA of Hanover. She was passionate about domestic violence awareness and served as a cochair and organizer of the “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” event benefiting the Hanover Domestic Violence Task Force. During her daughter’s childhood, she served as a cheer coach with York-Adams Elementary Football League. Cindi is survived by her beloved daughter, Piper Lee Sites, 23, who will miss her terribly; as well as her cats, Toulouse and Jin-Jin. Other family mourning her loss include her sister, Marlene Bishop of Flemington, N.J.; her brother-in-law, Robert Kelemen (sister, Kathleen, deceased) of Belle Vernon; brother, William (Melanie) Greco of Beallsville; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nephews and greatnieces; and “dozens of cousins,” especially her cousin, Marcia Buchanan, who fervently participated in her care these last few months. Her loss will be felt by many childhood friends, ZTA sorority sisters and other friends from IUP with whom she remained in touch, as well as many friends in the Hanover and York areas, where she lived since the turn of the century. Cindi loved babies, kittens, most cats, puppy breath, and the Oxford comma. A visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the funeral chapel. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022, at HEFFNER FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORY INC., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. The family will announce a later summer Pittsburgh memorial service at a later date. In honor of Cindi’s memory please consider a donation to your local YWCA or specifically, to the “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” event (YWCA Hanover, WAM, 23 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, PA 17331) which is scheduled for Aug. 12, 2022.
