Evangeline ‘Evelyn’ Mavrakis Niehaus – North Belle Vernon

Evangeline “Evelyn” Mavrakis Niehaus, 94, of North Belle Vernon, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at her home. Born July 15, 1927, in North Charleroi, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Alma Fontaine Mavrakis. A resident of North Belle Vernon for the past 35 years, having previously resided in Monessen, Mrs. Niehaus was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon, where she served as a eucharistic minister, was a member of the church sewing and quilting club and made church baptismal garments. Evelyn was retired from Brookvale Sewing Factory, where she worked as a sewing machine operator, volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Monessen and was an avid card player. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Michael Labonich of West Newton, and Mary and John Gira of North Belle Vernon; six grandchildren, Lorraine Monack, Bailey Niehaus, Alex Niehaus, Victoria DeVore, Kelly Goodboy and Beth Stein; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jane Quinn of Monessen. She was preceded in death by her son, Paul T. Niehaus; and a sister, Leah Terensky. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2022, at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME &CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. THERE WILL BE NO SUNDAY VISITATION. Prayers of Transfer will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston as celebrant. Interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Monessen. The family would wish to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of OSPTA Hospice for their loving care and support given to Mom.
