Judith A Kovalcik, age 79, passed away Friday, March 25, 2022, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was born Dec. 16, 1942, in North Charleroi, daughter of the late George “Jake” Kovalcik and the late Helen Repka Kovalcik. Judy was a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania and taught special education in the Ringgold School District for 42 years. She was a Catholic by faith and a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. Judy was active in many community organizations, such as the American Legion Auxiliary, Campfire Girls, Eight and Forty, church women’s groups, Jednota Catholic Slovak Union, PSEA and the National Education Association. She loved spending time with her 20 nieces and nephews, following Notre Dame football, camping, dogs and participating in community events and organizations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a foster brother, Mike Miniciello. Surviving to cherish her memory are her brother, John (Nancy) Kovalcik of Bethel Park; a niece, Jessica; three nephews, Christopher, Mark and David; and 16 great-nieces and great-nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2022, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Donora campus. Interment will follow at St. Dominic Cemetery, Donora. In lieu of flowers, Judy’s family suggests that memorial contributions in her name be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Ukrainian Relief Fund. Contributions can be made at the funeral home or mailed to her brother, John Kovalcik, at 1165 Fox Terrier Drive, Bethel Park, PA 15102.
