Alexander Joseph Cherry, 89, of Monongahela, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Monongahela, son of Benjamin Teman and Mary Jane Tucker Cherry. Alex was a 1949 graduate of Monongahela High School and a member and elder of The Church of Jesus Christ in Monongahela. He was formerly employed at Liggetts Spring and Axle and Combustion Engineering, both in East Monongahela. He retired from Monongahela Valley Hospital, where he worked in the housekeeping department. Alex was a craftsman when it came to wood and metal working and a passionate reader of history, The Church of Jesus Christ and anything spiritual. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Bright Cherry, with whom he celebrated 39 years of marriage on June 12, 2021; daughter, Laurel Cherry of Carroll Township; son, Nathan Cherry and wife Caitlin at home; three grandchildren, Loralei, Natalie and Harleigh Cherry; longtime friend, Mary Jane Lorber, who resides with the Cherrys; along with nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sisters, Anna Elms and Irene Cline; and brothers, Harry and Bill Cherry. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, at The Church of Jesus Christ, 525 Sixth St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, with Elder Jonathan Nath officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ, 525 Sixth St., Monongahela, PA 15063. It has been requested that masks be worn in the church for visitations and the funeral service. The family would like to thank you in advance for your understanding.
