Peter ‘Pete’ Culyba – Rostraver Township

Peter “Pete” Culyba, 89, of Rostraver Township, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at his home. He was born on July 25, 1931, son of the late Basil and Mary Bakos Culyba. He was a longtime member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Donora, where he served as a choir director. Mr. Culyba served as a sergeant with the United States Marine Corps. Peter worked as a machinist for U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh and served on council for the Shear Knife Company. He was a member of the Ukrainian Club in Monessen and the Rusin Club in Donora, where he served as a past president. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores L. Myers Culyba, on Oct. 9, 2017; three sisters, Mary Culyba, Veronica Kovalak and Anna Pantuso; and four brothers, Basil, Michael, Andrew and John Culyba. Surviving to cherish his memory are his daughter, Linda B. Bryan of Rostraver Township; three grandchildren, David (Amber) Lytle of West Virginia, Tammylinn (Aaron) Pauley of West Virginia and Kenny Kohut of McKeesport; six great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hailey, Lillian, Savannah, Isaiah and Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pete’s family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice, especially his caregiver Mary and nurses Cindy and Kristen for their compassionate care. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township/Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2021. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2021, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church with Father Stephen Wahal officiating. Interment with full military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Donora. To be socially responsible during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to limit the attendance to 75 people inside the funeral home at any given time. Guests are asked to obey social distancing guidelines and personal protection guidelines which include masks within the funeral home.
