U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler appears to have won his bid for re-election to the state’s 14th District according to unofficial results.
Just after midnight, Republican incumbent Reschenthaler had a tally of 200,388 votes to Democrat William Marx’s 87,201.
In the Mon Valley counties of Fayette, Westmoreland and Washington, Reschenthaler of Peters Township earned 20,617 votes, 97,169 and 72,485 respectively.
Marx, of Delmont, took home 6,186 votes in Fayette, 36,332 in Westmoreland and 42,096 votes in Washington counties.
Reschenthaler did not shy away from his support of the president, but also veered away from the White House at times. Those issues, Reschenthaler said, include elimination of the Affordable Care Act, although his opposition carries the caveat that he wants to retain a key provision to protect individuals with pre-existing conditions.
“I’m old school in my belief that we need less regulations and fewer taxes as the best way to grow the economy,” Reschenthaler said.
Marx is a 16-year military veteran and vice president of Delmont Borough Council. If elected, he said his focus would be on building economic security for the working families in his district and on affordable health care.
Pennsylvania’s 14th congressional district is located in the southwestern part of the state and includes all of Fayette County, Greene County and Washington County, as well as the western part of Westmoreland County.
