Just when Elizabeth Forward thought it snatched momentum against Belle Vernon Area, Cam Nusser was there with the dagger.
After the Warriors trimmed a 14-point halftime deficit down to seven points at the end of the third, EF head coach knew his team was close.
But the Belle Vernon sharpshooter started the fourth off with a pair of 3-pointers and Hunter Ruokonen added another as the Leopards pulled away for a 76-62 win on the Warriors’ floor.
“Every time we made a run and we got it down, Nusser hit another big shot,” EF coach Matt Loftis said. “Nusser was big for them. He was hitting some deep shots and we had a hard time switching off on their dribble handoffs and left him open.”
Nusser finished with a game-high 31 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead four scorers in double digits for Belle Vernon (10-4, 4-1).
Mitch Pohlot finished with a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds and Devin Whitlock finished with 13.
