Monessen held interviews for authority appointments

Last week, Monessen City Council interviewed interested people for positions on authority boards –– something that hasn’t been done for quite a few administrations.

Acting Mayor Anthony Orzechowski said the interview process hadn’t been conducted dating back somewhere between five and seven administrations.

“Somebody has to take the time to gather applications and interview candidates,” he said. “It’s always been just appointed people appointing people. I’m very proud that we didn’t go that route.”

There are plenty of roles left to fill for the authority boards. The new appointees will be announced at the Dec. 23 meeting.

“Not all these positions have been applied for,” he said. “You can all apply five or six times if you want to, because sometimes people don’t apply at all. We have enough right now to fill the refuse authority, library and sewage authority.”
