BVA’s Caldwell third, headed to WPIAL finals

Jake Caldwell said early on he had a putt that would establish what kind of day he was going to have in the WPIAL Class AAA semifinal golf tournament at Hannastown Golf Club in Greensburg.
It was on the second hole, a tricky, short downhill par 3.
Caldwell left his tee shot 35 feet from the cup. However, the Belle Vernon Area senior sized up the roll of the green and drilled the putt for a birdie.
Caldwell went on to shoot a 5-over-par 75 and finish third as he qualified for the WPIAL finals for the second straight year.
“That putt got me going,” he said afterward. “It had a good roll, a good pace and it was dead center. It gave me confidence and I played pretty well the entire day.”
