It took a little longer than he had hoped, but Donnie Caterino will certainly take it.
In his team’s eighth game of the season, the first-year coach picked up his first career victory as the Greyhounds dropped visiting Washington, 8-1, in non-section play Wednesday afternoon at Monessen High School.
Monessen (1-7) allowed a season-low goal total and set a season-high in goals en route to the victory. Entering the game, the Greyhounds hadn’t allowed any less than five goals in a game and hadn’t scored more than three.
“We have been playing well the last couple of games and Tuesday against Bentworth, we played a great 60 minutes and the last 20 minutes killed us. This is the first game where they’ve put a full 80-minute game together,” Caterino said. “Hopefully they can see what this can do and move on to California (today).”
