Since 1992, Random House Publishing’s “Junie B. Jones” children’s book series has been a favorite of elementary school-aged kids and families.
The books, written by Barbara Park and illustrated by Denise Brunkus, feature the main character, Junie B. Jones, who is always getting herself into sticky situations. This weekend, in celebration of “Junie B. Jones Month,” the McKeesport Little Theater will be bringing that character to life in its production of “Junie B. Jones is not a Crook” by Allison Gregory.
The play tells the story of “a terrible school day” that Junie B. Jones, played by Autumn Tavaglione, has had to deal with. Someone stole her new furry mittens, and Junie is really down in the dumps about it, but then she finds “a wonderful pen of many colors” and thinks to herself “I should be allowed to keep it, right?”
Junie decides that the law of “finders keepers, losers weepers,” allows her to keep the pen, and she decides she is going to use her cool new pen as a tool to attract Warren, “the handsomest new boy in kindergarten” to be her new boyfriend.
