Rocco Bernadina was dominant on the mound for New Castle as it defeated Yough, 1-0, in a WPIAL Class 4A consolation game at Ross Memorial Park in Washington on Tuesday.
Bernadina struck out 14 and outdueled Yough left-hander Jarett Bach to lead the Hurricanes to the state playoffs.
Yough head coach Craig Spisak knew that if Bernadina toed the rubber, his team would be in for a challenge.
“We know what he did in the first two rounds, he’s a tough pitcher. He’s good, he’s really good,” Spisak said. “There were limited opportunities for both teams and they came through on those.”
