Leopards can’t maintain hot start in 4-2 loss to West Mifflin

A hot start wasn’t enough for Belle Vernon Area as it dropped a 4-2 contest to West Mifflin in Section 2-4A softball action on Wednesday afternoon.
Natalie French batted leadoff and opened the game with a single to right-center field. Two batters later, Sophia Godzak, who started the game at third base, launched a bomb over the left field fence. Godzak’s strike traveled more than 200 feet for a two-run home run to give the Leopards (5-7, 3-4) a 2-0 lead heading to the bottom of the first inning.
In the bottom of the first, West Mifflin (10-2, 5-2) answered.
Lauren Yuhas ripped a double to right-center field. The Titans loaded the bases in the next two at bats, setting up Isabella Farmer to tie the game with a two-run double to center.
