White Oak Rotarians build new planter boxes

The White Oak Rotary recently finished a project to construct new garden boxes for the McKeesport Community Garden. The project started in April when a McKeesport Community garden member sought help online to fix the planter boxes. When some Rotarians went down to see what they could do, they decided the boxes could not be repaired, so Rotarian Craig Anlauf made the plans to build new boxes. Over the summer, Rotarians got together to built the panels out of tree decking so they last longer. On Thursday, Rotarians and volunteers from Steel City Arborist built 17 new boxes for the 2027 planting season. Taking part were White Oak Rotarians Autumn Dougherty, Dan Dougherty, Anlauf, Marie McCray, Dave Balmert, Ron Gongaware, Luke Eckels and Joe Guffy. Rotary District Gov. Michelle Petrell also pitched in. Rotarians purchased the materials from fundraisers.
