Event set to help residents dealing with flood damage

It will take place Thursday at the American Legion building in Washington.

Washington County will host an event to help residents and businesses affected by the recent flooding in the area.

The county is hosting a Multi-Agency Response Center (MARC) in partnership with Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion at 168 Park Ave. in Washington.

“This is an opportunity to bring critical resources directly to the front door of those in need,” said Gerald Coleman, Washington County director of public safety. “We encourage anyone who has experienced loss or damage from these recent storms to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with those who can help as we, as a county, navigate the recovery process.”

According to a release from the county, many communities experienced significant flood damage following severe rainfall on Sept. 12 and 20, and this event is a way for residents to connect with critical resources and aid.

The event will bring together multiple county agencies, volunteer organizations and state agencies, including the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the Washington County Department of Human Services and more.

The release stated that the event is a central location for individuals and businesses to learn about resources, will help with understanding insurance coverage, will provide information on avoiding fraud and repair scams and will show connections to local community support services.

Washington County Emergency Management encourages residents and businesses who experienced damage to report it through the county’s online damage reporting system.
