Man accused of violating Megan’s Law requirement

An Elizabeth man who is required to register for life under Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after state police allege he provided false information about his employment history.

Duane Scott Nelson III, 41, was charged with felony failure to provide accurate registration information and misdemeanor unsworn falsification to authorities, according to court records. The criminal complaint was filed Monday before Magisterial District Judge John E. Christner in Rostraver Township.

According to a Pennsylvania State Police public information release, Nelson went to the Belle Vernon state police station Aug. 18 to update his Megan’s Law registration. During the registration process, police allege investigators determined Nelson was lying about his employment history.

The felony charge alleges Nelson failed to provide accurate registration information, while the misdemeanor charge accuses him of unsworn falsification to authorities.

State police said Nelson is a lifetime Megan’s Law registrant stemming from 2007 convictions for rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault involving several minor victims.

A preliminary hearing has not been set.
