IU1 to host student showcase today at PennWest California

Intermediate Unit 1 (IU1) announced the return of its annual Student Showcase, a premier event celebrating the creativity, technical skill, and academic excellence of students from across Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties.

The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at PennWest California Convocation Center.

Admission is free and the event is open to the general public.

The Student Showcase serves as a live gallery of modern education, moving beyond the classroom to highlight the hands-on projects shaping the next generation of leaders and creators.

Walking through the gymnasium, visitors will see the incredible variety of what regional students have been diving into lately. While the specific displays change every year, past showcases have featured everything from high-tech robotics and drone flight demonstrations to student-produced podcasts and intricate woodworking.

It’s a true reflection of the unique strengths and innovative programs found in each of our 25 school districts.

“This event is more than just an exhibition; it’s a testament to the innovative spirit of our region’s students and the dedication of the educators who guide them,” said IU1 Executive Director Donald Dr. Martin.

In addition to these displays, attendees can experience Career and Technology Center (CTC) programs in real-time. Students often provide live demonstrations of specialized skills, with past highlights including students practicing emergency medical services or showcasing professional cosmetology techniques. The atmosphere will be energized throughout the day with live musical performances by student choirs, bands, and even a steel drum ensemble.

IU1 encourages community members, families, and local stakeholders to attend and support the incredible achievements of students, teachers, and advisors from our region.

Free parking will be available in the River Lot No. 4.

For more information about the Student Showcase or other IU1 programs, call 724-938-3241.

IU1 is one of 29 Intermediate Units throughout Pennsylvania, which were created to provide programs and services for students and families within a specified region. Since the 1971 inception of the Intermediate Unit system, the IU1 has been strongly committed to serving those in Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties.
