BVA High School gas line rupture leads to in-person cancellation
Remote learning days will be conducted through Wednesday.
The Belle Vernon Area School District announced Sunday that a gas line issue would lead to the cancellation of in-person classes until Wednesday at BVA High School.
In a post on its Facebook page, the district said it was informed that an 8-inch gas line on the high school campus fractured between the Peoples Gas meter house on Crest Avenue and the high school. The district stated that the gas line is partially filled with water, and approximately 300 feet will need to be replaced.
“At this time, there are no safety concerns related to a gas leak,” the district said. “However, without gas service, we are unable to properly heat the high school.”
Due to the incident, the high school will operate on remote learning days through Wednesday. All other schools and district facilities are unaffected and will continue on their normal schedules.
Updates will be provided as repairs continue.
