Time to get ‘merry and bright’ as Monongahela is set to usher in the holidays

The Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes the community to come eat, drink, shop, listen to music and get in the holiday spirit at Friday’s event.

Merry and Bright Night will kick off the holiday season Friday in Monongahela.

The festivities run from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. As luminaries on Main Street light up the city, Christmas music will fill the air, there will be no shortage of shopping opportunities and youngsters will have the chance to let the big, bearded, jolly man from the North Pole know what gifts they want this year.

The event is sponsored and organized by the Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce.

Many businesses in town will stay open later than usual and run sales.

The Monongahela Fire Department will once again host a holiday arts and craft show from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Monongahela Area Library will host vendors inside the library from 4 to 9 p.m., featuring handmade items, chocolate and more for sale.

Here is the schedule of events: 5:30 p.m. — Holiday music begins 5:30 p.m. — Food trucks in Chess Park 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. — Kids train rides in Chess Park 5:30 p.m. — Craft vendors inside Monongahela Volunteer Fire Departmenr 6 p.m. — Santa lights the community Christmas tree in the gazebo 6 to 6:30 p.m.— Dancers from Aspire To Impact Dance to perform 6:30 p.m. — Santa greets children in his house 6:30 p.m. — Ringgold jazz Band will perform in front of Key Bank 7:30 p.m. — Fireworks (no seating at aquatorium due to public safety) 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. — Miss Lori’s Dancers to perform through town The event will be held rain or shine. Updates will be posted on the Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.
