On the road to Vysne Remety

After five exciting days in Pilsen in the Czech Republic for the 80th Anniversary Liberation Festival and honoring the three men from Donora who took part in the liberation in 1945, the first part of our journey was complete. Next was my chance to right a regret my father had that he didn’t visit relatives when he was in Pilsen. That chance came in the form of my cousin, Dr. Robert Marusak, who is the Dean of Forestry at St. Charles University in Prague. He had a colleague, Filip Patierovic, pick us up for the return to Prague. On the way, we stopped at the small village of Lidice, the site of retaliation by the Nazis in 1942 for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the butcher of Prague. It was here that we met Robert’s beautiful wife, Ludmila who gave us a tour of this horrific holocaust site, which we will never forget.
