Monessen historical society celebrates 30th anniversary
The Greater Monessen Historical Society also celebrated the city’s Founders Day during its annual dinner and dance.

The Greater Monessen Historical Society celebrated its 30 anniversary on Saturday at the annual Monessen Founders Day dinner and dance.
With an Oktoberfest theme, guests were treated to a German dinner buffet served by the Steel Plate at Jozwiak Hall in the St. Vincent DePaul Society building.
GMHS President Daniel Zyglowicz thanked the evening’s sponsors and guests, including a delegation from First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. He invited the guests to visit the Monessen Heritage Museum and view the current exhibit, “Toys of Yesteryear.”
City Administrator Mike Korposh spoke on behalf of the city and thanked the society for its hard work and dedication to preserving Monessen’s history.
Dancing was provided by Paul Tobacco and the PT Cruisers entertained with dance demonstrations featuring the Stroll, Electric Slide, Charleston and Colors of the Wind dances, before inviting the audience to join them on the dance floor.
The mission of the Greater Monessen Historical Society is to preserve the cultural, industrial and ethnic history of Monessen.
