Several people injured at apartment complex fire in McKeesport
Several people were transported to local hospitals for minor injuries.
Crews put out a fire Sunday at a McKeesport apartment complex.
According to our news partners at WTAE, the call came in just before 11:28 a.m. at the Midtown Plaza Apartment building at 516 Sinclair St.
Smoke could be seen coming from the top of the building. A few people still inside the had their windows open and were leaning out.
Firefighters began evacuating upper floors while searching for the fire to extinguish it. The fire allegedly originated in a trash chute, WTAE reported.
City of McKeesport Bureau of Fire told WTAE that smoke was present on floors five through 11. Five people were transported to area hospitals for minor injuries, while one firefighter was taken to be treated for a hand injury, the department said.
The fire was brought under control at 12:49 p.m. The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.
